Meet at Bangalore

This meet was sponsored by National Information System for Science and Technology (NISSAT) and Consultancy Development Centre (CDS) and organised by Technical Consultancy Services Organisation of Karnataka (TECSOK) at Bangalore on December 23, 1997. In the inaugural session, Shri R.C. Kehar, DG, CDC delivered the welcome address followed by introductory remarks by Prof. N. Balakrishnan, Chairman, National Centre for Science Information (NCSI) and overview of information systems in India by Dr. A. Lahiri, Adviser, NISSAT. The session was also graced by the august presence of Prof. A Ramachandran, former Secretary DST and DGSIR and former Under Secretary General UNCHS.

Following presentations were made during the meet:

Consultants from large, medium and small consultancy organisations/companies/firms participated. Participants included consultants from diverse sectors including engineering, textiles, chemical, finance, electronics, management, information technology, machine tools, chartered accountants, human resource development consultancy, etc. The objective of the meet was to create an awareness of the advancements in information technology and how it can assist consultants through an overview of various sources of information such as online databases, CD-ROM databases that are currently available in India.

Meet at Pune

This meet was sponsored by National Information System for Science and Technology (NISSAT) and Consultancy Development Centre and organised by Maharashstra Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organisation Ltd. on 13th Dec. 1997 at Pune. The meet was inaugurated by Mr. B.G. Shirke, Chairman and Managing Director, M/s. B.G. Shirke Construction Technology Ltd., Pune. In his inaugural address he highlighted how the application of the electronic media, information tehnology helped him to achieve the record of constructing the building in a short span of time. He also mentioned the importance of use of latest information in agriculture, industry, consultancy and other sectors. The changing economy and industrial scenario needs the information backup to keep the pace with the present technological developments. The eminent speakers for the meet were Mr. V.G. Deodhar, Dr. S. Krishnan, Mr. S.K. Gade from NCL, Mr. Kishore Ingale, BCL, Pune and Mr. Satish Pandilwar, M/s. Balasai Net, Pune. The speakers covered the following topics alongwith live demonstration on Internet:

  1. Overview of information system in India.

  2. Concept of database, on CD-ROM, online access to database, patent information.

  3. Overview of internet services, E-mail, etc.

  4. Electronic commerce, advertisement, homepage development, etc.
